Our next stop on our way north was Valencia and we found an awesome free camp spot 50m from the beach and about 15 km south of the city centre. the pretty beach was very quiet and we had the place almost to ourselves apart from a few fishermen and the odd dog walker passing by. There was just a few other campers close by and the atmosphere was very relaxed and peaceful considering being quite close to Valencia.
After chilling for a day around the beach, we wanted to spend the following day exploring the city. We decided the best option would be to cycle. We were immediately impressed with the cycle tracks, leading along the coast, onto a seaside promenade and then onto the nice wide cycle paths all the way into the City. We soon realised how great Valencia was for cyclist as so many people chose this way of transport for getting around. The cycle in took about an hour and although fairly hot in the Spanish heat, it was very relaxing and an enjoyable ride right into the centre.
The main attraction in Valencia is the futuristic building of the Arts and Sciences Park, where there is an Oceanarium (the biggest in Europe) 5D Cinema, Bars, restaurants and more. The complex is huge and a work of Art in itself, sculptured magnificently, with lots of different sections and surrounded by shallow man made waterways. we spent sometime here, had a picnic and enjoyed watching all the activities going on around us.
We hopped back on our bikes and followed the beautiful cycle paths through the lush park that stretch along side the city centre, cutting into the city towards the old town. Valencia is not too big and perfect to explore for the day on bikes. We stopped by the very pretty, perfectly organised central indoor market where all the traders didn’t seem to have a piece of fruit out of place and afterwards continued on to check out the tower and a look around the old town. After a quick coffee stop, we got back on our bikes to endure the long ride back to the van, a lot harder than the way in because of the tough afternoon heat..
it was a well earned relaxation time for the rest of the day after we had calmed down two excited little doggies, as always so happy for our return.
