The start of our amazing Arctic Circle trip, driving the length of Europe and back over the next 6 months, we were excited and a little nervous doing this epic trip in our little old van, we headed of with a rough route in mind, a positive attitude and our 2 little doggies!

We love Spain, although we may be a little biased. There is so many places to stop and different routes we can take to travel North. This time we headed to Alhama de Granada, we had visited this old spa town before and wanted to stop by again as we loved the place and the beautiful surrounds so much. It was Nicks Birthday and we enjoyed tapas and drinks but the following morning, Sarah unfortunately slipped on some rocks and broke her rib at the back. Not a good start to our epic trip, happening on just day 2! However, this didn’t stop us and after a trip to the hospital, we continued on.

On our route north we stopped off for a few days at Encina de Banos where there is a beautiful lake and Moorish Castle, with Sarah’s broken rib, we were forced to take things easy which meant not travelling as quickly as we’d originally planned.

Our next destination was the stunning old city of Cuenca perched up on the cliffs with it’s lovely old town and colourful houses. This was a last minuet decision and a slight detour but so very worth it, we absolutely fell in love with Cuenca.

After the city we headed into Cuenca’s national park for some tranquillity and more relaxing times to let Sarah’s back heal before continuing, we were amazed at how lovely the scenery is, we would highly recommend Cuenca and the surrounding national park.

Episodes 1-3 the countryside from Central Spain heading North;

We visited the cities of Zarragoza with its impressive Cathedral and the pretty small city of Huesca….

Before leaving Spain and crossing the Pyrenees, we visited a stunning gorge, there is so much beauty in Northern Spain, it was hard to travel quickly, so we decided on some more ‘relaxing that rib time’ for a few more days before finally crossing the border into France.

Episode’s 1 & 2 of the beautiful gorges we visited in Northern Spain;
